These paintings form part of my
'Geometric Series' and include works on both paper and canvas. I often begin with abstract shapes which in part echo the landscape and then I begin to build up layers over time. Lines represent boundaries such as the horizon or sand meeting sea and circles can symbolise the sun or moon. I like to explore positive and negative space and enjoy contrasting flat planes of colour with textural
marks. This series is inspired by Russian artists such as Kazimir Malevich as well as the St Ives group (John Wells, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and others).
